Feedback for my mech?

Post by RL_Nice »

So it's my first time customizing a 'mech, and I'd like feedback on whether this is a good loadout or not.

Timber Wolf

Engine: 19.25 tons (XL) 54 kph
Gyro: 4 tons (not sure what effect gyros have in-game)
Cockpit: 3 tons
Heat sinks: 15 tons (double)
Jump jets: 5 tons
Internal: 3.75 tons (Endo-Steel)
Armor: 14.50 tons (Max)
- Right/left torso: 22 front/10 back
- Center torso: 31 front/15 back
Weapons: 10.50 tons
- 2 Medium Pulse Lasers
- 3 Small Pulse Lasers
- 2 Medium ER Lasers
- 3 Small ER Laers

Criticals

Right Arm: 4 Heat sinks, 2 SLas, 1 SPLas
Left Arm: 6 Heat sinks, 1 SLas, 2 SPLas,
Right Torso: 6 Heat sinks, 1 Jump jet, 2 MLas
Left Torso: 4 Heat sinks, 2 MPLas, 3 Jump jets
Center Torso: 1 Jump jet

You have nothing but lasers, and way too many so it will overheat quickly.

You also have nothing long range, and nothing to take down aircraft.

I'd get one ER PPC or ER Large Laser(more heat per damage point but better range and hits easier), maybe 2 if you can. Put them in the arms as they won't be useful if you take any damage anyway.

Then I'd get 3-4 ER Medium Lasers OR 2 Med pulse lasers.

Then I'd get some SRM 4s or 6s if you have the space, too. OR one LRM of some kind, especially against aircraft.

Then I'd get at least 3 machineguns, maybe quite a few more.

always have 2-3 jump jets.

If it's a large mech then I don't like XL engines. They need more criticals free, not more tonnage free, but on a really small mech it can help a lot. Also, speed doesn't matter all that much since you can use jump jets to aid your speed.

Then fill the rest up with heat sinks.

For companion mechs you want better run speed, and you want to make sure they have plenty of long range weapons. Otherwise they will be useless.

You can also do specialty mechs like all machineguns and flamers on a firemoth. This is a devastating combination but one solid hit and you are done.

Topic not in the right section.. moved to general.

Based on your design you need to take a medium pulse laser off and maybe 2 of the er smalls in place for heatsinks.

I'd propose

something like

3x ER MED
1x ER SMALL
1x SMall Pulse

Your armor allocation was too much... it is not possible to allocate more than 12.00 T Ferro-F on a Timberwolf because any extra will not allocate.
You will get the exact same result with 12 tons of armor.

I'd switch the internal to standard and go to 19.00 T of Double heat sinks.. 29 (58)
?o get more sinks in the torso you could also go to 4 jets instead of five.. but that is just preference of allocation.

Ultimately you are on the right track and it wasn't bad for your first mech!

@Knotanalt:
Your advice would fit for single player, but he is trying to play online. Class rules apply along with the fact that PPC and SRMs are useless online except by those that have been playing online practically forever.... :|
Speed combined with jets does matter alot online. If you are too slow or do not have enough jets it will have that player good as dead.
