Official response is something like 'we are not planning to release it at this time.' It was a year or two I tried to get ahold of them. I doubt it has changed since then.

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Well if we want to get the source code we may need to ask the father of Battletech and the now gone Fasa (Joran Weisman) if he could get convince his old allied companys zipper interactive and activison for the help with the source codes of mechwarrior 2 (all 3 games with different versions) along with mechwarrior 3 (the game and expansion)

I would not even count on Activision to have the source code of MW2. Back then, Activision was a development studio, now they are a publisher. Technologies changed drastically, people came and left, and so on. I also don't think we need the source code. The game assets are stored on the game CDs, and we know how to access them. Much of the code was written for technology that works much different now: memory management, rendering and networking code are just examples of this.
