Ghost Bear's Legacy on DosBox

Post by RL_Nice »

Clearly, I'm on a quest to recapture my childhood by getting all three Mechwarrior 2 games to work on my current computer (I haven't really succeeded in any). I don't actually have a DOS version of Mech2, but I've been wondering if it's possible to install it via DOSBox to a version of Mech2 installed directly into Vista.

And if so, how do I change the disc mounted in DOSBox from the GBL one to the Mech2 one? Because the installation asked me for that.

You cannot is the simple answer....
You have to install in windows first on XP.

What do you mean? That I can't install via DOSBox or that I can't use a Vista installation?

Well, after I have thought about this further I have come to the conclusion that there is a possible chance that you can install DOSBOX by mounting the CDROM drive for the install.
Switch the discs in game then hit ctrl + f4.... it might work...

I have no idea as I have never installed GBL through DOSBOX simply because of the mounting issue.
Vista there is definitely no way to install through that.

As for mounting two images while in game for swaping on the same drive....that I have no idea if it is even possible. You should ask in the dosbox forums they probably will be much more helpful.

Alternatives:
  • Install from a virtual drive, such as VirtualCD
  • Or install using MechVM, and move the installed game to your DosBox folder.

Ah yes, good point I had not considered that.
I suppose ctrl + f4 would work in the case of the virtual drive as well.
Or install using MechVM, and move the installed game to your DosBox folder.
I did not know mechvm worked with GBL, cool! That definitely is the best option..

Unfortunately, Ghost Bear's Legacy is not showing up in MechVM for me.

MechVM should be able to detect and install if you follow these steps:
  • Insert your GBL CD
  • Start MechVM
  • Hit the install button
  • Enter path where GBL should be installed
  • Hit the install button
MechVM should say precisely which version it detected. If it doesn't work, please post screenshots.
