Pentium Edition on Vista32x Crashing

I followed the instructions in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCyNMEhTCtQ&fmt=18, and the game works perfectly up until I attempt to launch a mission of any sort. The game then goes black and tells me that MECH2.exe is not responding, and I have to close the program out. I followed all the instructions and attempted installing twice, but I can't figure out how to make the game work. I also tried MechVM and managed to play a skirmish with the default settings, but after that it has never worked again, and if I try to change any of the mechs or the planet, it crashes. Any ideas?

Most likely you have the unfixable bug. It comes randomly and no one knows what is the cause.
Skyfaller suggested in another forum post it may be related to codec packs, but that is not confirmed and I have seen the bug happen on a freshly installed XP install.

There is only four options.

A. Try the hook instead
B. Use Mech2 DOS in DOSBOX or a virtual machine.
C. Run mech2 95 in a virtual machine.
D. Dual Boot to XP or 98.
E. (I am not suggesting this) format and start over on the OS.

My advice is to try A then move to B when that fails.

Sadly, I have just tried A, B, and with a little help, C. I'm going to see if I can get a different version, one that isn't Pentium. Luckily, I had a copy of Mercs that installed perfectly through DOS and I will happily stick to that until I get a working Mech2. Thanks anyway!
