MechWarrior 2: Resource Forum

Hi again, first I'd like to thank the parties for all the patches and guides to getting this great game to work. I can't believe how awesome it still is after a decade.

However I have stumbled across some problems; first I found that it's not compatible with Xfire, so I had to turn that off when I started it up, no big deal.

Then today (10 days after installing it) I suddenly find that its just plain old not working. I click on the launch button and it runs away, disappearing
The only cause I can think of is the recent AVG update, which was actually quite hefty (req. restart, firewall re-recognition etc). So I disabled nearly all the background progs and its still not working.

I'm running the Softkey version of Mechwarrior2, which is a no-no I know, but I managed to download the OST and just played that in the background, everything else worked a charm :3

Any ideas as to whats going on? I hear theres the Slug Hook patch which I tried but was a little too confusing for me. Oh and if I have to reinstall is there anyway to save my saved game?

Sorry to say the description is that of a problem that no one knows how to fix. Mech2 95 works for a while then stops running for no apparent reason... We have tried everything to find the cause of it but as of yet no one knows how to get it working again. This is why I do not suggest the 95 versions of mech2. (The only solution we found was a complete format, which I will not suggest.)

Since you have softkey though you also have mech2 DOS. My advice is to install that version and follow the FAQs and run the game that way.
DOSBOX is the preferred method, but if you have XP you can run it directly with the other guide.

As for your pilots that can be backed up by copying mw2reg.cfg. It is compatible with DOS so you should have no probs.

Hey you've done it again! I installed DosBox, followed the FAQ, and its just amazing, no patches needed!

I had to juggle around with the directory locations then remember old DOS commands, but it works a treat.
There aren't any jumpjet recharge/disabled heat sink problems - the menu sounds are a little choppy but thats ok.

In fact I think the GFX look better in DOS than windows!

I also have all my saved games/pilot and found winamp runs in the background no probs with DosBox.

You have no jets in dosbox? hmm you have a dual or quad core right? You need to use this batch scriptwith cpugrab.
It will fix the jet recharge to be semi normal.

As for the disabled heatsink problem could you explain what you mean? I have never heard of that issue before.

Sorry you must've mis-read. I don't have any jet recharge/heatsink problems...

Its all working absolutely 100% all systems nominal etc, no worries.
