Good luck.
MechVM should be able to help you with most steps required to refine the mech geometry:
1. Extract models
2. Convert mech parts to .OBJ format
3. Reassemble and display mechs
4. Insert converted mechs back into the PRJ
However, converting .OBJ files back to MW2's format is not yet implemented.
The same goes for changing textures. If you need anything, just contact me.
I'll be glad to help if you have any questions.

K thanks i sent a pm to you asking some more questions. I want to know though if i add mechs from mechwarrior 4 what mech would you most like to see added and also give me some ideas on some updates that i can do to the mechs already there. All help is apreciated. This projects name will be as of now Mechwarrior 2 (2008) Update.

i hate to break it to ya, but you cannot add mechs to netmech... unless your doing it the way skyfaller is doing it and starting from scratch.
You can replace mechs in netmech, but adding mechs is hard coded; many have tried in the past all have failed.
Mercenaries on the other hand you can add mechs in a way.. NAIS did it, but mercs is dead now a days.

both are hard coded...

I think if you wish to add mechs to mercenaries you may have a better chance.. especially after you study NAIS's hex edits for a while.
It is not easy to do, alot of trial and error.
