Broken stock configs

Post by Skyfaller »

Unfortunately, some of the stock configs in MechWarrior 2 are broken. I suggest we use this thread to discuss possible changes to the configs. Please post configs here that you think fix or address the issues mentioned. We can include fixed versions in a patch and add them to MechVM's MechLab. If you describe the changes, that will help me understand why you made the changes.

Rifleman IIC: shown with 64.25 tons in MW2:31stcc, MechVM shows 60.25 tons. The config lacks a ER Small Laser, not sure what else is wrong. Maybe someone can have a look at the specs in Technical Readout 3055 (I don't have the stats here).

Kit Fox: Configuration C (GBL) version carries too much equipment, but only 4 criticals of heat sinks (should be 6). Configuration D (GBL) also has errors (too little equipment + 4 heat sink criticals).

Stone Rhino A: MechVM shows 93 tons, GBL shows 100 tons. I'm not sure if this an official configuration, since this is not an omnimech. The left leg has a double heat sink with just one critical, which is weird, because the other configs have double heat sinks. GBL says there are 20 single heat sinks, taking 10 tons, whereas MechVM thinks there are 13 HS because of that lone heat sink critical. It is not possible to add a lot of heat sinks, because there is not enough space left, but not adding the heat sinks leaves unsued tonnage, so a bigger change is needed here. Please stay true to the original config, though.

Executioner: all configs need to be corrected. TRO lists 259 armor points, but the configs only have 211 armor points.

Peregrine/Horned Owl: lacks DHS&FF criticals

Incubus: should use Ferro Fibrous Armor, the MEK file lacks that

Linebacker: One ton of armor missing on Linebacker Prime

Most configs in Mercs still have to be checked.

Alright, so looking at the issue at hand, we cannot perfectly match what the original Battletech configuration for each mech.

I looked and spent some time trying to come up with a way that would stay as close to the original while at the same time adjusting it for the reality of use of the game being completely different. It would be nice to have an alt config that people would actually be willing to use. Let's face it not a one of us would really want to play C-2 because the configurations are really badly made and do not account for the differences from Tabletop to simulation.

To that end I have made a Kitfix Alt. C that might be useful and somewhat true to the original. GBL does not have A-Pod, ECM, BAP, or TAG, so I tried to make use of the added space by adding jumpjets and armor to the mech. I also moved some weapons into the torso so that they do not get shot off immediately. I did leave the machine guns and AMS in the arms though, but critical weapons such as small pulse or ER large are in the torso. I was tempted to add heatsinks instead in a few places, but I didn't want to go too far on the changes, so I left it be.

Comparison of what my config looks like compared to Megamek can be seen below.

Could I get input from everyone to see what you guys think and could someone post up a variant similar to this for the other mechs that Skyfaller needs to complete this?

Alright, well I went and did some reasearch on the Stone Rhino A Config and it appears that the Variants actually are not called ABC, but rather 2,3,4,5, and 6 for the model numbers.

Alt. Config A looks to have been Stone Rhino Model 4.

Basically looking at the config it pretty much is spot on except for a few details. In order to make the configuration work they decided to use Endo Steel instead of STD which is why it was able to match the load out pretty much exactly. They also gave it three more heatsinks than was on the original. Instead of basically repeating that my variant uses STD to keep close to the exact armor properties, but this in turn does mean I had to sacrifice two medium lasers in order to make the tonnage requirements and I took away the three heat sinks.

My variant can be seen below:

Primary Executioner.

The main thing wrong as pointed out was that they didnt use the right armor tonnages which left the mech under tonned.
Unfortunately when correcting this problem the mech then suffers from being overtonnage.

Below is the original variant vs what is in the specs.

In order to get the armor up to what the specifications said I had to compromise. I took the MASC off to get under tonnage then added a AMS system with two tons of ammo along with two heatsinks in order to get to 95 tons. I have also adjusted the allocation of where each weapon is in order to take into account the differences with online play.

Executioner Alt. A: The issues with this one are the same as the primary. They didnt put enough armor, it is under tonned, not enough heat sinks, and they left a weapon off.

Comparison below:

What I did to correct it was add the missing armor and heat sinks, but yet again it was overtonned, so what I did is put back the missing machine gun and removed an er medium laser to get the proper tonnage. I also have adjusted the location of the weapons to be more useful.

Executioner Alt B: The same as the rest missing armor, heatsinks and they have a small er instead of medium.

This one was easy just put the missing variables and swap the weapon and it is exactly in spec, but again i did adjust where each thing was to make it useful.

Executioner Alt C: This one I think they tried to make the best of not having all the available weapons, but for some reason they didnt max everything they could out. It i missing armor and a weapon.

What I did to correct this was fix the armor, add the missing er small and then since I still had space added an extra heatsink and added another ton of ac 20 ammo. I also redistributed the ammo and weapons more so it is less of a ticking time bomb.

Executioner Alt D: This one is just a walking nova. Armor missing and heatsinks along with a weapon.

Corrected the armor, and put the missing weapon back in place. However, I removed the MASC and added more heatsinks to the mix along with redistributing the weapons so that as you lose arms the alpha strikes should be more heat efficient.

Horned Owl Primary Configuration: So, it looks like that the mech did have a bug with the heatsinks. In order for me to generate the missing criticals I had to change the type to single and then back to double heatsinks in order to fix the missing criticals.

I also moved the weapons again. Only going to show one config though this time since they look identical.

Incubus Primary: This one actually looks fine there really isnt anything wrong with it other than a weapon missing, but upon trying to find a compromise to match the Btech variant I found that the one in game was actually the best. I did modify the critical locations, but other than that it is identical.

To that end I decided that I would try and make another variant for it based on the third variant. I had to compromise with the engine speed and added a heatsink and one weapon to get it right on with the tonnage.
