Is this a glitch?

Okay, here's the basics:

My Mercs CD includes both the DOS and Windows versions. I installed the Windows one.
I am running it on a Windows 98SE computer (700mhz, 512mb of RAM, Voodoo 3 grafx card, Soundblaster 16 soundcard), using a Mouse and Keyboard for control.
I have NOT installed any patches or mods.

Okay, so I'm in that set of missions where you're with rebels against the Draconis Combine. I did the one where you kill Sho-sa Varus, and then another that involved finding a mech encampment so artillery can bomb them.

So now I'm on a mission where I have to escort some trucks and rescue POWs, and suddenly things get weird.

First off, the mech I'm piloting is NOT the same one I've had the last three missions! I have different weapons, and no jump jets. Okay, fine, as all around it seems more powerful than the customized Jenner I was using. So I play the mission until we reach the POW camp.

The trucks then do nothing except go in circles forever.

I wonder what the issue is, so I go thru the map and eliminate any enemies I find. I get to a point where the game actually acknowledges that I've cleared the map. But still the trucks aren't heading back to base. I try simply walking back to the dustoff site, but that doesn't end the mission either. So I'm forced to abort the mission (which deems it a failure even though it wasn't).

Okay, so I go and check and make sure I'm piloting the right mech--and it turns out I am. So I then go to the Mech Lab and make sure it didn't change things on me. It didn't. So I shrug and start the mission again.

But I'm still piloting this other mech with different weapons and no jump jets...

What the heck is going on?

ya got me on that one off hand... i'll have to look on my day off to see what happens when i play that.

If you know the exact mission you might be able to see what it is supposed to be in the mercs playlist i got.

I'll watch the video later (unfortunately I can't watch video any time I want).

Anyway, I decided to install the 1.1 patch, so I've started over from the beginning and am gonna see if the game still behaves oddly. If it does, I'll try installing the DOS version and see what happens.

(for the record, I'm NOT playing as the leader of a unit, so I'm not dealing with the Economy--I don't know if you get a different set of missions if you do that).

Hmm, well economy does not usually make a difference on the gameplay I do not think, but I could be wrong.
Either way though I cannot remember what mission that is. happen to know what campaign it is or mission number? For the life of me no luck finding it today.
Pretty sure i remember it though.

Oh, sorry I took so long getting back to you. Stuff happened.

Well, the mission with Sho-sa Varus is "Blood-for-Blood" (mission 09 on your list) so it would be the two missions after it where I noticed the glitch.

I haven't yet tested to see if the patch fixes things.

In that case, no it is not a bug. The mission briefing on that mission that the mech changed says that they provide you with a stalker for that mission.

I've had a similar problem with the trucks. When reaching the POW camp, they will stop and do nothing. To fix this, I walked into the camp, reached Nav Alpha, and then they starting following me back to the dustoff site. I think this is a bug, but I'm not sure.

some of these missions in mercs are glitchy if you do not trigger the waypoints sometimes. It is always best to install the patches and do not take shortcuts.
