Dos Mercenaries, auto complete mission problem

Post by profchaos354 »

Hi, I am running the standard version of Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries DOS on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, using MechVM. After getting a little ways into the campaign, I am unable to play the missions because when then mission is launched, it immediately returns me to the end mission report and says "mission successful". Sadly, this makes the last half of the game completely unplayable. Has anyone else run into this issue? Thanks

Missions finishing immediately usually occur when MW2 has problems accessing the CD. Start by checking whether the CD image is inaccessible or the CD is not inserted in the drive. If you keep having problems, please post the install-report.txt file from the directory where the game is installed.

If you're still having problems, make sure your cd .cue and .bin are easily accessible, like in your c:\ drive.
here's an example command of loading the mercs folder. I have mw2 mercs in the folder c:\MERCSCD.

1. mount c c:\MERCSCD
then enter the c drive. very important that you do this first, or dosbox might not detect the .cue

(I have the .bin and .cue files for the cd labeled as MERCENARIES_DOSWIN.)

2. imgmount d c:\MERCENARIES_DOSWIN.cue -t iso

now, in your c: drive mounted on dosbox, you can run MERCS.exe and it will detect the CD.
