I have tried all patches the forum has referred to and have come up with squat.
Basically, the game starts up fine, but when the mission starts (piloting the mech) the screen turns black and crashes.
I use an XP, but is this a similar situation to this? viewtopic.php?f=7&t=658

Re: Crash on XP
I am not sure if it is by your description it sounds pretty close.
If it is the same as that then your outta luck and need to switch to mech2 DOS. or go through the steps i outlined in the other thread.. but DOS is simpler.

Yep, that is what i suggested in the other thread.... except that one is illegal... Windows 95 is not free.
I really would not suggest to use Windows 95... 98 runs much better in the virtual machine.

Whoops! Sorry about that illegal link.
I think that Microsoft Virtual Machine 2007 has 98 as one of the Operating Systems it can emulate out of the box. I'll try that.
I wonder if Microsoft supports Windows 95 anymore...

It is ok, you did not know.Whoops! Sorry about that illegal link.
Nope, sorry to tell ya there is no vm that does it out of the box.I think that Microsoft Virtual Machine 2007 has 98 as one of the Operating Systems it can emulate out of the box. I'll try that.
A virtual machine is much like a real PC as you still have to install everything from scratch which means tracking down Windows 98 discs and occasionaly drivers depending on OS.
DOSBOX though does successfuly emulate DOS.
If you do not have the old 98 discs that is probably the cheapest solution combined with mech2 DOS on ebay.
I did find two copies on there pretty cheap.
Find 1, Find 2.
