Today during my American Government class at college we were studying how the House and the Senate pass bills to be signed by the President.
I was assigned to the Senate. We were tasked with creating legislation to pass the senate. If your bill fails sit down. I first began with a real serious issue.
President Obama when he came into office he promised that people would get less tax refunds for donating to charities or churches, so I wrote.
The first person next to me agreed after thinking for a second.More tax incentives for those that donate to churches.
The second person read it and immediately turned it down.
She then proceeded to show me her bill which simply said
Since it was an obvious general statement, I agreed to it as did everyone but one person.I love my cat snuggles [some name like that].
I sat there for about 5 minutes killing time when the teacher said that we could try and pass more than one bill.
So in a aura of mischievousness I decided to try and pass something of value through the fake Senate.
I wrote on my paper
I walked up to everyone on my side and asked them if they agreed with the statement.General statements Generally pass.
As expected no one disagreed nor asked to read the folded paper.
In essence it passed, so I handed it to the teacher which laughed abit when she read it.
It proceeded to the House of Representatives.
When it was read to the people there someone yelled out
After that it was very close. Only one person out of about 15-20 people turned it down.WHOEVER WROTE THAT IS A GENIOUS! Seriously deep stuff we have here!
It is expected to be reintroduced next period, but I think whether or not it passes I made my point.
