So, whatever happened to MercNet?

Post by MG_Man »

I personally like the large selection of Mechs in Mercs and being able to play online.

However, the file is down (even though it seems the virus was just a false-positive)

Anyone happen to still have this?

Myg quit support for the Netmech and MercNet packages. And it looks like he took the files down. I'll see if I have a backup and if I can host it from my site.

Thats sad. I would have liked to have played Mercnet with all those mechs... and perhaps have made an NAIS .TDL file for a custom mech of my own :(

you know you can play as vehicles in mercnet? unlike Netmech, it uses the PRJ file from the actual game. So everything in single player could be in multiplayer.

So did the package have the entire Mercs MW2.PRJ? Or a cut-down version just for multiplayer stuff?

I don't know about the Mercnet 1.1 package... But MMPD said that you "affirm to own Mercenaries..." so that probably means you need the single-player PRJ for it to work. idk. The multiplayer option in the actual game used the single player PRJ.

the package was a stripped down version that was multi only.
I put the disclaimer up because technically it should not be done even though it is the same idea as a spawn.

In all honesty though, isn't that also what [official] NetMech's MW2.PRJ was? A stripped down 31CC MW2.PRJ with NetMech Only levels?

EDIT: Sorry, I meant NetMech in this post.

Mercnet you mean? I have been looking all around the net for an official spawn of the thing honestly I am not even sure if they made one like they did with netmech.
Do you know if they did?

No, sorry, but I don't think there was.

The whole reason NetMech was separate was because by the time MECH2 was shipped, it was not complete. So, they released it on the internet and on cheap CDs.

When Mercs was released though, the multiplayer capability was already there.

Yep I did not think there was.
That is exactly why the disclaimer is there..
