Re: New computer time
Don't buy before July 1st. Starting from that date, you will be able to upgrade Vista to Windows 7 for free. The date may still change, though.

I don't know what you want to do. In many cases, laptops are great. They offer far more freedom and almost the same performance at a slight increase in price. However, you won't be able to upgrade CPU and graphics chipset. If I buy a laptop, I usually take an Intel CPU, otherwise, AMD. Make sure you get an original Vista CD, which should have both the 32- and the 64-bit versions of Windows (Any Vista key can be used to install the 32- and 64-bit versions, all you need is the right CD!). Check out if you still need the 32-bit version, then go for 64-bit if possible. Memory is cheap, so get 3GB at least. A 64-bit OS will let you use 4GB or more. All modern systems are capable of using 64-bit Windows. Get a four-core CPU, like the AMD Phenom II X4 940, 4 cores @ 3000GHz should rock your software.Cyril wrote:wont have the money later
Haven't seen it myself, but many people are looking forward to it. I feel like they're trying to sell a service pack that fixes Vista flaws.Col.Kell wrote:How does Windows 7 compare to Vista?

Re: New computer time
It is pretty true that Win 7 is like a service pack, but fact of the matter it does run better on my system that vista... considering my system is from 2005 that is saying something.
I have not had any major problems in win7 at all.
Their media center is top knotch.. if you have a tuner and cable you would love it!
Basically can turn your machine into a DVR very very easily.
I put a 2nd tuner in my machine and it made it possible to record and watch to diff things... cannot argue with that really..
(Yes, Chris TV can do that too, but I have been having probs with that lately)
The task bar in win7 is cleaner, you can fit much more in it.
The drivers are mostly vista compatible so there is no major driver issues since that is the case.
The annoying UAC has been toned down significantly. There is now a level setting which can make it so that there are less frequently requests from the UAC... the UAC in vista always annoyed me... in win 7 it is much less of a nusance.
I think you will just have to decide for yourself whether it is a wait, there are a few other things but those are the most notable in my mind atm.
Go install a beta in a virtual machine and you can decide that way.
