Dragonfly (Viper) & Hauptmann
While still learning to use Cinema4D, I thought I could make more mechs. I'll finish the Sagittaire textures later, but in the meantime, I started working on a Hauptmann and a Viper (called Dragonfly in the inner sphere).

Continued working on the Hauptmann. I start working with primitives, like cubes, spheres, cones, etc. Next, I have to finish the arms and legs and optimize polygon count, before converting the primitives to polygons - that conversion is a one-way trip. After conversion, hidden polygons must be removed. Finally come uv unwrapping and texture painting.

The Hauptmann was the first Lyran Alliance OmniMech. It is on the cover page of the Technical Readout 3060. It is a 95-ton mech that mocks the Daishi design with its gnomish appearance and the ER Large Laser "cigar".

The Viper, called Dragonfly in the inner sphere, is a 40-ton OmniMech used by the Clans. It is very fast and can carry 8.5 tons worth of weapons. It is in use mostly with Clan Ghost Bear, and was used in the Clan invasion.

I put some more work into the Viper. I overworked the arms and optimized the polygons from roughly 3000 down to 1500.

wow, the viper is looking really great. Nice job on it. The minnute little details make it a lot like the 3dfx mechs.

Lots of time went into optimizing the mesh and UV unwrapping. The texture still lacks hands, and it shows only the details that will be common to all painting schemes. I plan to add camouflage using a special shader.
The pictures show Viper (prime) and alternative configurations A and B. A has two medium pulse lasers in the right arm, two machine guns and an AMS in what I interpret as a turret, and an SRM4 in the left arm (two tubes will be unused...). Alternative configuration A has a medium laser in the right arm, four medium lasers in the turret, and an SRM 6 in the left arm. Alternative configuration B has a small pulse laser in the right arm, a flamer and a small pulse laser in the turret, and a PPC in the left arm. The screenshots were made in MechVM.
