Sagittaire WIP
Here's my first attempt at modeling a mech. I was curious how much work goes into these. This is what I have after six hours. Still needs lots of detail and textures.

Re: Sagittaire WIP
Thanks for the comment.
The Sagittaire is an inner sphere mech. 95 tons, bristling with energy weapons. It's on the cover of TRO 3067.
The legs ... I think they are too long and too thin, but I agree they don't look right yet. I also have to add a lot of detail on the torso and textures.
I'll try to add this mech to MechVM when it's completed. Please don't expect it to look as good as the original.

Re: Sagittaire WIP
Added some more detail and shortened the legs. Now need to reduce the poly count and texture it, but unsure in which order.

Re: Sagittaire WIP
do you have a pic of this mech's toes?
the sharp spikes would just break when it walks
and what program are you using?

Re: Sagittaire WIP
I used Cinema 4D for this. So far about 8 hours of work went into it. Trouble is, Cinema 4D appears to require the BodyPaint module for UV unwrapping and texturing. I have only a demo of that module. If it doesn't work I'll try Wings3D or a demo of Maya or 3DS Max.
In TRO 3067, on page 99, the toes have a reinforced cap over them. The T-shape should be about as stable as the triangular cross section, but the latter will not sink in so deeply into mud. Still, the TRO's feet look better. Haven't decided yet.
And I'll have to lean the torso forward, even if the mech turns to the side. I think I'll introduce a wedge between hip and torso to do that.

Re: Sagittaire WIP
Poured five and a half hours into fine-tuning the model and reducing the polycont. It's currently at about 2.5k polygons. Texturing is next.

Re: Sagittaire WIP
Continued working on this. Fixed polygon winding - two and a half hours - so that lighting is correct in MechVM, and rigged the beast (another half an hour). Now it's correctly lit and ready to receive textures ...
