Mercs mods please?

Post by Slavick Kell » Tue Mar 10, 2009 2:43 pm

Kell,

something I wanted to ask on here, why aren't there any mods on here for Mercenaries? It would look like that game has more potential than 31cc or GBL, i mean, there was NAIS, there were levels that could be made without moding the prj file, more geometry... so why hasn't anything on here been made for Mercs yet? I'm sure everyone would like some cool stuff for that.

The answer short and simple is that Mercs isn't popular enough to justify me spending extra time on projects nobody will play with. Unless I hear from a few people across the board asking for mercs mods, don't be expecting any in the nearby future.

I may be an extreme example, but I always have several editions of MW2 installed (DOS&Titanium 31stCC, GBL, Mercs, DOS editions in both german or english). Most other people who still play MW2 probably have MW2:Mercs as well. For producing mods, Mercs should make things easier for you, and there is a larger selection of mechs and objects. If you can produce better mods in less time using Mercs, I would welcome some Mercs mods.

Perhaps so. imo the most potential for modding in mercs would have to be the .mwm files; entire scenarios with everything needed outside the project file. And all it would take is MercNet with the 1.06 upgrade.

I have also noticed that NAIS doesn't seem to work under the Windows hook. I wonder if a KAM could be made so NAIS mechs were playable under windows...

You seem to have taken a closer look at NAIS than I did. I have seen the Talios, but are there are any mechs with *new* .WTB's in NAIS?

No. But many of the mechs used in NAIS used parts and pieces that didn't even belong to mechs. Such as the Marauder on there used something that looked like a chemical plant pipe as the gun that went on it's head.

I considered using Mercs and GBL parts in KAM, but why I don't think external based WTBs will work, is because of the OBJ tags in the BWDs. Sure you can put in FE FF so the sim will look for an externaly based file, but how will it know what to look for?

...oh hey it looks like you've been promoted to Star Colonel, Sky. :) congrats.

ooh, something I never noticed before in the Mercs PRJ, look up the WTB "BS1_BODY", and you'll see what looks like a 3dfx version of the Battle Suit. Pretty neat. That will be my first project; building this never-made chassis.

James 3:5-10: My Reminder
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
