A new MechVM version is available for download here.

Changes:
- BattlePack installer works
- Added installer for MW2:31stCC, NetMech edition
- All games are again installed into the games subdirectory, DosBox mounts that directory as necessary
- Ability to create reports for undetected CD's

There are a lot changes that are currently experimental or incomplete, but may be stable enough for release in a few weeks, but I absolutely can't make any promises on that.

Hello!

New here so please pardon me, if this is the wrong place to ask. I have tried to get my Mechwarrior 2 and GBL disks to work with MechVM. found out they won't install, And I should make a disc report. Problem is, I don't know how to get them to you.

BTW My Mercs Disc Works Swimmingly. Very Awesome Program You Have Here. Thank you for your Help. ;)

If the game was installed, but doesn't run, please post install-report.txt from the game's directory, <MechVM path>\games\<your game>. If MechVM does not offer to install it, use the report CD button, highlighted in the picture below.

Hi,

I recently picked up a second hand copy of MW2 from a Game Store's clearance bin, and attempted to use MechVM-2009-11-29 to install and run MW2.

It appears to have installed successfully, but I am receiving a 'Process ended with code 0' result on the panel when I try to start the game; in the command window, it says:

fatal error (1007): can't find file C:\DOCUM~1\[Name of Computer]\DESKTOP\MECHVM~1\GAMES\MW2-31~1\DOD to load
Process ended with code 0

The closest file to 'DOD' that I can see in the 'MW2-31stcc' folder is 'DOS4GW', so I am wondering if there is some sort of error in the program and is there a patch for it? Or is there any way I can get it to "see" DOS4GW, as I assume that that is the file it's trying to acquire?

I am using Windows XP and the MechVM has identifed that the disc I have is MW2 (DOS); the disc bears the label "Version 1.1"

Thanks in advance!

Hello Terminus-Est,

Welcome to mech2.org.

Your post leaves me with a number of questions:
  • What operating system do you use?
  • You are trying to launch the game through MechVM's "Play Game" button, right?
  • Does the game run if you start it from Windows Explorer, by double-clicking _mw2-31stcc.bat?
I am currently testing a new edition of MechVM, which will allow you to run the game using DosBox.

Hi there, and thanks for the welcome :)

In answer to your questions:

1). Windows Xp Professional (2002) w/ Service Pack 3; Pentium 4 CPU (~2.8GHz x2), 512MB of RAM (in case that has any bearing on the matter)
2). That is Correct
3). No; When I did, a blank Command Window appeared and remained on screen for about a minute, then command lines appeared; but a split second later after they did the window closed, so I don't know what it had listed/written on it. When I attempted to run it again, nothing happened at all.

Hope that helps - let me know if there's any more info that you need, and thanks for your time :)

I am currently testing a new release which will allow using DosBox even if you are running Windows XP. That will probably work better for you. It is possible that MW2 cannot deal with the long path - reinstalling MechVM in a dir like c:\temp or directly under C:\ may help. What graphics card are you using? Did you try running MercsWin.exe?

1). I just reinstalled MechVM directly into the C:\ directory; I now have the new error message of the "Mechwarrior 2 CD-ROM not being found", so it was maybe the long path name that was confounding it. I'll be searching to see if there's a fix for the No CD found issue now (unless a solution is already known for it).

2). Sorry, I guess I should have pointed out that I'm using a Toshiba Satellite P-20 laptop, that utilises a NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 card

3). I don't have Mercenaries; I only have MW2 (DOS).

Thanks for your continued help, it's greatly appreciated!

Sorry. On my system, I needed to patch version 1.0 to 1.1 to get the game running in XP.

My pleasure.
