New NetMech Shell

Post by Skyfaller »

I intend to make a new shell for NetMech. Goals here:
- Include MechVM Mech Lab
- Include IRC chat using libpurple
- Include support for configuring all mechs in NetMech, including Kell's mechs
- Improved cheat detection
- Integrated checks for classes
- Support for new missions

This will take some time ...

Status:
- Screens from old shell can be opened
- MechVM Mech Lab: almost complete, needing only some debugging and 'Mech export
- New shell: putting screens together, functionality missing
- Invoking NetMech sim: proved to be possible with MMPD's help

These are some great goals. Besides the obvious awesome things like new map support, integrated IRC in particular is a pretty big deal if that could replace the Pilot's Lounge lobby.

Do you mean actualy importing my KAM mechs into netmech? If so, I must warn you; the OBJ tags in netmech are different from 31stCC or GBL. I would have to reformat them acording to the netmech tags.

Nice job.

well np, I would have come up with netmech maps, only problem is the netmech prj has so few geometry options to pick from, it makes it very hard to make a new map. I did try making the Galuzza mineshaft map though, and would have been with great success too had it not have been for the netmech sim (it didn't allow negative altitudes) :(

So far, I have a little XML scripting language that displays the screens in correct order, with some of the buttons functioning. It uses variables to store the selected values and which buttons are checked. As I found no space in the former screens, I simply put mech class selection below the main window.

This will take a few months to complete, but I haven't forgotten about WTB file creation.

Nice. I see at the bottom of the picture it says "Class 1: energy weapons only". Does this mean the new shell will automaticly restrict MEKs to the featured class if the host sets class rules? Or will this text simply be for showing the players what rules are in effect?

It means the following:
  • When you design a mech, choice of weapons will be restricted by that class
  • If you choose from the list of preconfigured mechs, that line will go red or green depending on your choice
  • You will not be able to launch with an improperly configured mech

Why don't you play Netmech?

I want to replace the shells for the single player campaigns too, but don't know when I'll get to that yet. It would add the following:
  • Make it easy to add mechs and maps, as in NetMech
  • Configure special case mechs like the underwater mech in GBL
  • It may be possible to activate salvage in all Mercs missions

It was Kell's idea to give the modding crew here a set of new clothes, like it?

We don't play netmech because my laptop modem was fried. And I know our mom wouldn't like it if we put a game on her computer. :(
who knows? I'll ask anyway.
