Files Modified During MechVM Installs

Greetings, new (old) Mechwarrior here,

I recently installed MW2:31st and MW2:Mercs with MechVM, and was curious what/if game files, like MW2.PRJ, are modified during the installation. I'd like to get my DOS versions patched to 1.1 and 1.06, respectively, but want to make sure I don't goof up or can at least restore anything that MechVM has done to improve or stabilize the game. E.g., I see that Skyfaller's FarView patch is in the Mercs installation directory. Has that been applied by MechVM? I also saw that there were a number of mech configuration improvements loaded in. When upgrading Mercs to 1.05, it mentions all mech customizations will be reset to their defaults. Does this include updated mechs from MechVM?

Thanks for taking the time and having the passion to update and continue working on MechVM. I can't tell you how excited I was when I stumbled across this site looking up information on MW5:Mercs. The MW2 games are still great, and I'm excited to play again.


EDIT: Noted that upgrading Mercs to 1.05 will remove mech customizations.

Hi again,

It looks like MechVM does change some files that then get reverted when patching. For example, installing MW2:31st from MechVM corrects some mech configurations, e.g., the overweight rifleman, but upgrading that installation from v1.0 to v1.1 overwrites those configuration changes.

Is there a way to patch in the updated configurations manually for the three games? A way to patch those in after patching the base game? I appreciate that you all went to the trouble to fix the configurations. Although less of a big deal with MW2:31st, it's more of an issue with MW2:Mercs. Since mercs v1.0 doesn't allow you to save mechs created in the mech lab, but 1.05 does.

Upon further examination, I seem to be conflating what MechVM is doing with something that might be just a bug in Mech2 V1.1. It seems to have something to do with MW2SHELL.EXE in Mech2 V1.1. When using a V1.1 shell file, the Rifleman config, for example is overweight, but when I copy an original, MW2SHELL.EXE from the CD (v1.0), the configuration appears corrected. Apologies for the false alarm.
