Also, there can't be a texture BWD within a mech BWD, otherwise when I replaced mech limbs and pieces, I wouldn't have gotten strange new textures, I would have just seen floating XEL files from where the original WTB was.
I think I may mess around with the MW2_MAP.BWD to see what happens then.

well for netmech I can tell you that in the shell the isignia's are chosen and if the picture is replaced in the shell it is replaced in the game.. we did experiments on this in the past.
The result should be a different logo if I remember correctly.

James 3:5-10: My Reminder
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

the Trial of Grievance missions work almost the same way, the shell, not the PRJ declares the insignia.
And in the ToG SCN1 files, no star specific insignia is assigned. Instead, the scenario is told to include (I think it's named) "INSTMAP.BWD", which is a file that works with the shell to tell the engine what logo to include when the game has launched.
