yah I was extremely disappointed when I realized that myself. :(

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

USB 3.0 offers little advantages for keyboards, mice, and game controllers. Actually if you look at the specifications it can be a crippling disadvantage when it comes to data propagation in cable length.
USB 1.0/2.0 specs say no longer than 16ft, I have seen a range of 18ft to 24ft before the device is no longer recognized by the USB controller, and data transfers start to significantly drop around the 6-8ft range.
USB 3.0 specs say no longer than 9ft for data propagation, my USB 3.0 ports are in the rear panel so I have a 6ft extension cable to make it easier to access them. I can use a 3.0 memory stick just fine, but when I hook my HDD docking station (which is USB 3.0) up to the extension cable (its cable is 3ft, for a total of 9ft of cable) the controller fails to recognize the device. It would not be so bad if all I did was loose data transfer rates, but complete failure of data propagation is very bad.
In short USB 3.0 has a significantly shorter cable-length before data propagation breaks down, and then fails.

USB 3.0 stuff has significantly come down in price over the past two years, I think I gave around $10-15USD for the 6ft extension cable two years ago, now it is like $4-8USD for them. So I will have to get some shorter extensions later on. I have also seen some 10ft and 15ft USB 3.0 cables, and allot of bad reviews on them saying they don’t work or only good for USB 2.0 (or less) devices.
I got the 6ft extensions while being blissfully ignorant to the new specifications of USB 3.0. Honestly at the time I thought max cable length would have been the same if not doubled, I did not expect it to be halved.
