Several users, including me, have been getting virus/trojan horse warnings about this package. Both mercsw.dll and netshell.dll are reported, as well as parts of the installer.

Myg, please explain. Until then, I'll remove the link to the package. I hope you understand.

Details on the threat: http://www.avira.com/en/threats/section ... k.gen.html

Hmmph, seems I need a better AV...

Bout all I can say really, strange the Netmech package didnt suffer from it tho (built on same machine).

Gonna have to look into when I get home (away atm), will update you guys when I find any more info.

Thanks for the heads-up

I'm not saying that NetMechDos.exe is safe - it is only one third of a normal DosBox.exe in size, so there may be another runtime packer at work that my virus scanner is not detecting. I suggest that everyone who feels up to it grabs the official DosBox package and extracts the NetMech Ressources into that DosBox C: drive.

According to http://virusscan.jotti.org/, only Avira AntiVir thinks this is a trojan, and their product is known to produce false positives. I have uploaded the files in question to their website, so hopefully there will be clarity soon.

Update: The people at Avira have confirmed that this was a false positive and they have updated their virus database. I'm sorry for the trouble, but I doubted that NotSid's ClamWin and my Antivir would both be wrong. I'm restoring the download link above.

We can only download it if we have due to copyright laws?
