ok, this has been bothering me since the first time it happened to me.
It was a game between MMPD and I, and in the opening rounds, MMPD hit me in the head and got 2 crits. Both knocking out (2)sensors.
This effectively rendered the mech unable to shoot at all. And as the round progressed, I later found out that it could not do physical attacks.
I only bring this up cause 2 days ago I read about the Phantom Mech ability (again) and got more insight on what it was
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Phantom_%27Mech
According to that entry, two warriors dueled and a Kuritan Warhammer at point-blank-range unloaded an alpha strike at an overheating Archer (morgan kell) and for some reason all shots missed.
Now I'm not sure what you guys may think, but I think regardless of sensors, you should have the ability to use your own eyes to aim as well. If you're point blank range with no Sensors (really should be called a targeting system), how hard should it be? +3, +4 to hit?
As well as Physical Attack? If i were to kick or ram someone, why should I not be able to because my Sensors are out?
sorry, just a rant

Re: Sensors
The story comes from the Warrior Trilogy series.
In the story Kell's Archer disappeared from everyone's sensors, it was basically like he didn't even exist.
In the 3rd book of the series, after 13 years, they faced off again, and as they entered the ravine both mech's vanished from all sensor and targeting systems of those who stood by and watched the duel.

Re: Sensors
well i aint read any of the books, but a HUD in a mech makes alot of sence. and if that system has been damaged, then there is a good chance that it is intergrated with basic aiming. as well as that the HUD could be damaged and showing static on the screen.

Re: Sensors
Although the "Phantom Mech" story has been told through 3d person point of view, you'd figure that since Kurita was firing "point blank" regardless of the sensors being the targeting system, the weapons hit something because Kell's Archer was right in front of him.

Re: Sensors
there are many theories out there in the B-tech community on what may of caused the "Phantom" mech ability.
some say its LOStech that Kell had
some say its supernatural ability
I say maybe the ravine that they were in (maybe surrounded by mountains) might have had some sort of interference with the sensors, like maybe a lot of metal in the mountains, etc....

Re: Sensors
Gotta disagree with the last theory, because did not this happen twice on two different planets?
When I read it I got the distinct impression that the writer wanted desperately to explain how Kell survived so he made up this "Phantom Mech" ability to explain it.

Re: Sensors
Yeah, it was 2 separate instances in that case ...
Then in several occasions after that it happened with Kell after that through the clan invasion, 3 times that I can think of.
Once it was in the twilight of the clans series where Kell was standing on a ridgline and was completely untouched while clanner after clanner rushed at him...

Re: Sensors
I believe they reference the phantom ability three (3) times in the Warrior Trilogy series. Twice on planets and once in the interior of an asteroid.AlphaWizard wrote:Yeah, it was 2 separate instances in that case ...
