back in the days of mplayer,
I came up with what I liked to call "kick dfa"
All it took was to get your mechs 7-10 feet in the air and fly full forward at the enemy mech.
in most cases, if you successfully did this maneuver, your mech will rebound upwards, and most likely leaving your enemy mech with little head armor left (if not dead).
At that point you can follow up with a DFA on your way back down from the rebound. Or a couple of lucky LRMs might finish off their mech
Good old DFA

On Mercnet, we had a guy with the callsign "Goatman" who liked to do that one, so they were called "Goat kicks" in my group.
I'm not sure if I've ever managed to pull one off intentionally, but you brought up a good point, the rebound is definitely part of the appeal in any DFA.

Re: Good old DFA
some fun games, we'd get 3-6 people and have jenners with no weapons
and try to DFA each other
sometimes if we missed, we'd take out an arm
or lose our own legs

I call those Skip Dfas. and the other ones are just Dfas. And then there is a DFA in a moth which is just a DFA with style.
