Kell: By the end of the second age, Sauron was more than 2000 years old. Why do you think mere bullets would affect him? By popular belief, fighting a ghost is more a question of strength of will and determination than mere weaponry, and ranged attacks are not believed to carry that determination to the intended target. It is a fascinating aspect about "Lord of the Rings" that the depicted wars are not decided by weapons.

In reply to the Halo guitarist, I send out Gurney Halleck, warrior troubadour of House Atreides.

Edit: Oh, Kell already replied. OK, hope my lecturing doesn't bore...

Skyfaller, I'm sure you may know that Sauron was (somewhat) killed during that one battle scene because Isiliador chopped off his wee finger with the ring on it by a single sword slice.
I see a lot of Halo MA5b rifles, each of which have 60 rounds. One of those spartans may strike lucky and get his wee finger too. :P

Kell, it's not a question of how many bullets. You can't kill a ghost with bullets. Isildur was in despair, he had just lost his father, and had nothing more to lose. He cut the ring from Sauron's body, severing the connection between Sauron and his ring. Bullets can make holes, but work badly for cutting, in particular against ghosts, even in large numbers. Also, your shiny halo troopers only want to return to their TV sets ;) I hope you don't take this too serious.

Well Pepsi, but Picard wouldn't be complete without Q:

He may be omnipotent, but I'm sure you can post some picture to distract him ...

...I'll agree with you Sky, the Spartans were ment to kill Covenant-alien enemies, not Sauron or his legions of orcs. We'll leave that to be The Fellowship's job. ;)
