Re: Mercenaries Mission Editor FAQ - Year: 1998

Here's a little more info. sarna.net has a file called stripwld. This was written by activision's Dan Kegel. This is used in the final step of creating a mission. In order to run this, you need dos4gw.exe, which you can get here http://www.allstargaming.net/dl/files/dos4gw.zip Here is the output of ...

Re: Mercenaries Mission Editor FAQ - Year: 1998

By the way, you do not need to touch the prj file in order to add custom missions, in case that's not clear. All you need to do is zip them into .mwm files and add them to a directory under your mercenaries directory.

Re: Mercenaries Mission Editor FAQ - Year: 1998

I'm not sure exactly how far you've gotten, so I'll just give you a breif overview of what I know. The MW2DOC.HTM (one of the files which can be found in the zip linked in the OP) describes the structure of .wld files. These .wld files are the decrypted versions of .bwd files. A .wld file is written...

Re: Amazing.

If you just want to get a bunch of new missions I suggset you check out that mirror of the old mercenaries mission depot. Some of the best missions ever made are definitely still on that site. Insert plug for LedMirage here (he now works on WoW mods, he may even still have the decompiler for mercnet...

Re: Mercenaries Mission Editor FAQ - Year: 1998

The MW2DOC.HTM file (edit the file to change the text color to black). It explains what each file does and what to put in it. The easiest way to start is to decompile an existing simple mission with not much geometry in it and use it as a template, but this requires that you have the tools to turn t...

Re: Mercenaries Mission Editor FAQ - Year: 1998

BTW the contributors I know of were Patrick Grover, Michael Grover ("Hammer" and "Jammer"), Ed Wong (endymion) and myself (Don Halloran, "Axe"). But I don't know how to contact them anymore, and I don't really remember *anything* (as would be the case for the other guys...

Completely remapping the keyboard

Since I no longer have a joystick (boohoo) I would like to completely remap the keybinds for the game. This means, for instance, using ESDF as directional controls, and remapping keys which have default engine binds (eg S for shutdown, E for target nearest enemy). Unfortunately, editing input.map al...

Re: Amazing.

A couple of other things... These are mercnet missions. They won't work with netmech. As far as I know, extra content was never added to netmech. Also, custom missions started becoming problematic with version 1.1. The "greatest ever" version of mercnet ran under 1.05/1.06. Finally, I noti...

Re: Mercenaries Mission Editor FAQ - Year: 1998

Nobody ever really used the mission editor. It was created after mercnet had peaked and was never quite finished. I didn't use it to make any of my missions and neither did Ed, though I think Hammer may have made a test mission with it. The best way to make missions, imo, is to use a text editor. It...

Re: Amazing.

OK, the site used to be called the MW2 Mercenaries missions depot. It was still alive 18 months ago, but has now vanished I'm afraid. You can still find a subset of missions by the likes of ed and myself here http://forums.sarna.net/files/programs/games/mechwarrior_2_mercs/missions/ EDIT: Found the ...
