I replaced MW2.PRJ in the MW2 folder on my computer from the game CD and this seemed to fix the respawn issue. I'm leaving this post in case anyone else runs into a similar problem.

My mech is spawning about 15m below the entry point of the ramp, preventing me from walking forward into the arena. The first time I played the mission, it spawned correctly. I ctrl-q quit and then replayed the mission, at which point my spawn-trouble began. I tried restarting the game, with no luck...
