Re: Unseen mechs to return!

Oh well -- http://battletech.catalystgamelabs.com/2009/08/10/sometimes-things-just-dont-go-as-we-want-them-to/ Fortunately we still get some of the Unseen, like the Locust and Battlemaster, just not the Macross ones. Perhaps we'll end up with the Project Phoenix redesigns in MW3015? For the record,...

Re: Mechwarrior 5 possible teaser (mechwarrior confirmed)

The version I posted was the 3050 Upgrade then. Whatever, it's still official Battletech artwork put out by the people maintaining the game.

Re: Mechwarrior 5 possible teaser (mechwarrior confirmed)

No they are not, but there is nothing at all preventing them from being included. The Unreal Engine 3 variant that MW4 is being built around is probably little more than a renderer and physics engine. Everything else is provided by the game coders themselves. If the developers want those things, the...

Re: Kraken (Bane)

Again you're missing the point. The point is not that you're using too many polies, it's that you're not actually using those 1000 polies to even one tenth of their actual potential. You're investing more polies into the least important parts of the mech (like gun barrels) while leaving important ar...

Re: Kraken (Bane)

But not that simple. Notice on the image from Technical Readout 2055 and you'll notice some not-quite-regular curves, odd angles, and asymmetries that make the limbs and body of the original Kraken look like actual mech parts and not simple shapes: http://www.mech2.org/forum/download/file.php?id=101...

Re: Kraken (Bane)

Hmm, right now it looks like a stock MW2 model that's been hit with quad divide a lot--it's using a rather large number of polies for very simple shapes. A lot of the polies you are investing in cylinder facets and stuff could be invested in making the shapes more detailed and truer to the original ...

Re: New here, first time playing MW2 since 1995

Thanks, I already downloaded the view patch. Also, the Glide wrapper does not fix all the issues with occlusion, but issues with occlusion and disappearing polygons are so common in games of the 95-98 era (even Gran Turismo has them, and that was a top-quality, AAA game if there ever was one) that I...

Re: New here, first time playing MW2 since 1995

So does wireframe actually increase draw distance or does it just remove fog? I've increased the draw distance in my copy of Titanium to 9 kilometers, and I've spotted approaching mechs from at least 1.8km (which is a lot better than the mere 1000m you can see in MW4). That mission, though, gave me ...

New here, first time playing MW2 since 1995

Hello, I've started playing MechWarrior 2 for the first time since playing the original demo on a 486 in 1995 (I couldn't buy the game because I had no CD drive). I'm also a long-time MechWarrior 4 player, having first played it in 2001. Since I was basically flying blind in terms of which version t...
